#054 Going Back To 808

Hello again

It’s a bit of a sad one here at Tracks HQ, listeners, as last week we sadly lost legendary Roland TR-808 drum machine inventor Ikutaro Kakehashi. An innovator who made an incredible contribution to modern music, we loved the fella. So much music of our favourite music simply wouldn’t have existed without him, and for that we owe him a huge debt of gratitude.

But what should one do to pay their respects to those that they love? That’s right. They should do as their ancestors did, and we make a tribute podcast. It’s the only way.

So this week, we each picked 3 songs each which feature a 808 beat, and chatted about the great man. Our picks went all the way from 1970s Japanese new wave to dance and hip-hop tunes from the last few years, and we think it makes for a great listen. Hopefully you do to.

So it’s a huge thanks from us, and a big, massive RIP to Ikutaro.
